CorePROTECT
Calculates the Cost of 'Double Downtime'
Launches
tool to help companies determine the real cost of downtime
Carlsbad,
CA - May 13, 2003 - CorePROTECT, a data security specialist,
estimates that 40% of businesses misjudge the bottom line
impact of a computer losing its data and settings. To help
enterprises determine the true cost of downtime, CorePROTECT
has launched a 'Double Downtime' calculator.
'Double
Downtime' takes into account the lost productivity of the
IT support function, as well as that of the end user and the
value of the data lost.
CorePROTECT's
analysis shows that, on average, 25% of all PCs experience
eight hours or more of downtime per year as a result of viruses,
application corruption and user error. Reconfiguring PCs in
these instances is one of the most labor-intensive IT tasks.
CoreProtect's 'Double Downtime' calculator takes into account
the impact this has on both end-user productivity and IT support
resourcing.
In addition,
CorePROTECT has found that many companies overlook the financial
impact of dataflow interruption when measuring downtime. Dataflow
describes how much data is on the machine, its value, what
proportion is in constant use and the employee's billable
time.
"Double
downtime is a serious issue and is often overlooked as a huge
drain on time and resource," said Tim La Fazia, President
and CEO of CorePROTECT. "Organizations need to reduce
system downtime and maintenance issues by providing individual
employees with the ability to restore their systems instantly."
"Double
downtime can be easily avoided. The key is for organizations
to offer mission-critical data security at the hardware level.
This will give the user reboot and restore power, which virtually
eliminates downtime and does not need specialist IT intervention,"
added La Fazia.
Industries
most affected by double downtime include enterprises with
high user churn but low support provision, such as libraries,
hospitals, retail kiosks and colleges.
